VOTING REQUIREMENTS:
The officers of the Pastors’ Conference shall be elected during the annual conference.
The following procedures shall be followed:
The President of the Pastors’ Conference shall preside over the nomination and election process, as assisted by a parliamentarian.
We respectfully ask that only current and retired pastors who are likewise registered messengers for the SBC Annual Meeting participate in the election of officers. Eligible voters may receive a ballot at Guest Services, located at the back of the Convention Hall.
Nominations and elections shall be conducted during the scheduled time allocated for such business during the annual conference. The election shall be held at the conclusion of the Monday afternoon session.
All nominees must be men, as qualified by Scripture, who are currently serving as a pastor of a Southern Baptist church in friendly cooperation with the SBC.
All nominations shall be made from the podium. Nominations for president are limited to three (3) minutes, and all other offices shall be limited to two (2) minutes.
Those who make nominations must be men, as qualified by Scripture, currently serving as a pastor of a Southern Baptist church in friendly cooperation with the SBC.
At the close of nominations, the President of the Pastors’ Conference shall call for a vote for each officer-elect position.
Voting will be conducted by ballot unless only one nomination occurs, in which case, the members may elect by acclamation.
Those who are voting for the Pastors’ Conference officers must be in the meeting hall when the vote is administered for their vote to be eligible.
Mismarked ballots or ballots improperly submitted shall be declared invalid and will not be counted toward any nominee or considered in the overall tally.
Write-in nominations/votes are not allowed, and any such ballots will be considered improperly submitted.
The ballots will be counted and validated by the Tellers Committee of the Southern Baptist Convention.
The nominee receiving the highest number of votes, at a minimum threshold of over fifty (50 %) of the overall tally, shall be declared the winner and will be the officer-elect for the position and term duly elected. The officer-elect will assume office at the close of the Pastors’ Conference. If a nominee does not receive a majority vote, which meets the required threshold of over fifty (50 %) percent of the overall tally, a run-off would occur between the two nominees who received the highest number of valid ballots cast.
The election results will be presented to conference attendees, by the President, once all ballots are counted and confirmed valid by the Tellers Committee of the Southern Baptist Convention.
